March E-News

Mariner Sands Charity Week

Artists for a Cause was proud to partner with the largest charity fundraising effort in Martin County for the fourth year in a row! Our organization's new concert/showcase format produced an increase of approximately 30% in funds raised over last year. Money raised is designated to charities that focus on basic needs. A4AC thanks Charles and Christine Jung for their hard work and their organized and pleasant effort - which was clearly a great success.

Salon Series - Florida

Since you last heard from us, we have held two additional Exceptional Student Showcases Series at the home of Maureen and Tim Cotter. We are thankful for everyone who supports us through this series, especially the Cotter's for all they have done for our cause!

The installments were held on January 15 and February 25. In addition to cocktails and hors d’oeuvres, guests were treated to performances by exceptional young A4AC Talent. Coaches for the events were Paul Reekie and Terry Barber. Take a look at some of the performers...

Shane Savage is 17 years old and lives in Port. St. Lucie Florida.  He is a homeschooled junior in high school and currently dual enrolled at Indian River State College. He’s been involved in music since he was about five, starting with violin, and then moved to cello and piano, then started the double bass at age 10 and hasn’t looked back since! Shane has had the opportunity in 2017 to perform at the Kimmel Center’s Verizon Hall in Philadelphia and Carnegie Hall in New York City with the NYO2 Orchestra and members of the Philadelphia Orchestra. He also has recently won the Treasure Coast Youth Symphony Concerto Competition with the Koussevitzky Bass Concerto Op.3 and will be performing the concerto three times with TCYS starting April 16 in 2018.  He plans to graduate High School with his AA degree from IRSC and major in Double Bass Performance at a well acclaimed music university. Through Artists for a Cause, Shane has performed for “Dance for Food” and also to support the Florida Oceanographic Society’s “Lights on the Lagoon” event.

Mya Bodnick_previewMya Bodnick, 15 years old, is extremely honored to be a part of the amazing Salon Series. She is currently a Freshman at the Oxbridge Academy where she is a devoted member of their Musical Theatre Department as well as the Honors Performance Ensemble Class. She is a member of her school’s Mock Trial Club, International Thespian Club and Artists for a Cause Club. Mya recently got straight Superiors at the Florida State Thespian competition for her solo musical theatre act. She also participates with the Dance Arts Conservatory’s Broadway Stars Community Theatre. Mya has been singing at her synagogue, Temple Emanuel since age six. She has sung the National Anthem numerous times for both the West Palm Beach Baseball Stadium and The Roger Dean Stadium. Mya has also been a solo performer for the Jewish Federation’s monthly Holocaust Survivor breakfast.

On February 19, audiences came to the The Dark Room in Saint Louis to see the exceptional talent of Maggie Kuntz and Caleb Kelahan. They were met with rave reviews! Artists for a Cause takes pride in giving performance opportunities to young artists.

We invite performing artists at every level to audition for A4AC programs and special opportunities. You may submit a video at any time throughout the year, which need not be professional. It can even be taken with a phone! Those seeking a live audition in the St. Louis or Florida area may contact us directly for a time. Artists who are actively involved with programs need not re-audition unless they have something to share which is 'different' in that it represents significant change in growth and development or is outside of the scope of what we have engaged you to do previously (i.e. a singer auditioning on piano).  Please email Megan@a4ac.org with questions.

Dance for Food - St. Louis

Audience members at the Dance for Food performances at the Grandel Theatre on January 18 and January 25 experienced exceptional dance performances for the admission price of non-perishable food items. At the first event, more than 1,108 pounds of food was donated, enough to feed 277 people for one day. Operation Food Search, one of the beneficiaries of Dance for Food, shared: “Your food drive donations not only fill the shelves of our agencies, but also are used in our Cooking Matters classes, in adult job training programs, in after school child feeding programs, in food closets in schools, senior centers and crisis centers. You truly help us nourish our community.”

Food Outreach, a St. Louis nonprofit that gives nutritional support to low income victims of cancer and HIV, also celebrated Artists for a Cause and the 1,035 donated food items it received. “Words can’t fully thank you for creating such a beautiful event that showcases our local dancers while supporting organizations working to eliminate hunger in our community,” Julie Pole, Executive Director, explained.

Artists for a Cause supports artists who serve community needs.
logo

Artists for a Cause is a national nonprofit organization that supports artists who serve community needs. Some programs help artists and charities to get the most out of their collaboration, while most produce results directly, by feeding the poor, healing the sick, or solving other problems through unique artistic solutions. Additionally, we never ask artist professionals in a struggling industry to donate or give away their livelihood.  No program is merely about art for arts’ sake –
Artists for a Cause is about the arts as a solution.

We would like to thank the following for their support.
