February E-News | ||
We are pleased to announce the cast of the fourth annual Singing with the Stars event. This performance, competition and fundraiser will take place at StarStruck Theatre, 2101 S. Kanner Highway in Stuart, FL on Friday, March 24 at 7 p.m. Five community Stars have been selected and paired with three professional singers who are directors of the most competitive student choirs in Martin County! They will perform and compete for the top talent prize! This year's competition is intense! James Paul, Director of Jubilate at Jensen Beach High School; Shane Thomas, Director of OPUS at Martin County High School; and Eileen Walentin, Director of the Carillon at South Fork High School will coach their partners, each hoping to have the winning combination. The community Stars include: Christine Jung, Former FBI Agent and resident of Mariner Sands; Lynn Kreps, Photographer, DJ and owner of Avenue Entertainment in Stuart; Heather Morris, Activities Director of Grand Oaks of Palm City; Preethi Sekharan, Gunster, Yokley & Stuart, PA; and Gil Smart, Columnist and Opinion writer for Treasure Coast Newspapers. The cast gathered in early February to meet one another and also to choose their duets under the direction of Jennifer Jones and accompanist Peter Jones. The immediate camaraderie of the group and energy in the room was palpable – although a sense of friendly competition lingered in the air. With three well respected competitive Choral Directors as the Professionals, there are bound to be some fireworks! To support your Star CLICK HERE and donate to the candidate you support. Club Updates We have had a lot going on with our High School Clubs. If you live in the Treasure Coast, we hope you will support the South Fork High School Club as they strive to stop human trafficking with the Hope for Freedom Benefit Concert. Also, many thanks to Susie McAllister, our Club Coordinator. She took a trip to Palm Beach County to meet with the Oxford A4AC Club and reported back: "At Oxbridge Academy, the Artists for a Cause Club is up and running and filled with fun,enthusiastic and very talented students! Aaron Simons is currently their fearless leader (under the watchful eye of faculty advisor Ernie Mills). At this meeting, students were asked to get one or two songs together for their show which will soon "go on the road," touring local nursing homes and bringing the joy of music into the West Palm community! Aaron told of a performance recently where a patient in a wheelchair was silent until the kids began performing. During the performance they noticed her singing along with a smile from ear to ear! Aaron has known Terry Barber since his days with the Treasure Coast Treble Makers, and has grown to love being a part of all the joy Artists for a Cause brings to all those it touches. Another Club member, Martina Cavard, particularly loved being a part of the Salon Series at Mariner Sands, meeting new people, and feeling her confidence grow with every smile from the intimate audience. She felt the experience was a win-win with all enjoying the wonderful evening. Keep up the good work kids!"
Artists for a Cause supports artists who serve community needs.Artists for a Cause is a national nonprofit organization that supports artists who serve community needs. Some programs help artists and charities to get the most out of their collaboration, while most produce results directly, by feeding the poor, healing the sick, or solving other problems through unique artistic solutions. Additionally, we never ask artist professionals in a struggling industry to donate or give away their livelihood. No program is merely about art for arts’ sake – Artists for a Cause is about the arts as a solution.
