Dear A4AC Artists, Friends, and Supporters,

I am sorry to share that the Florida office of Artists for a Cause inc. is closing.  More than four years ago, I moved from Florida to the midwest with my family.  Our Florida based board and I have found it more and more difficult to find the right support for programs in Florida.

I have struggled over that past few years to juggle the priorities of my family, performing arts career, while managing the two A4AC offices and programs.  Since the St. Louis office is closer to home, programs will continue based out of that location.  Sometimes a business needs to shrink to grow, and I am hopeful that this is the long term scenario for A4AC.

Those that know me know that my personal mission includes development and support of young artists.  I will be performing in Florida several times in the next few seasons, and you can expect that wheverer there is an opportunity to support the next generation's exceptional talent, I will take advantage of it.  I hope to see you there!

I want to thank you all for your involvement with A4AC.  Please take a moment to read the official Board announcement about this change, below.

Your friend,

terry

To our supporters:

Artists for a Cause (A4AC) has made a lasting impact on the lives of hundreds of young artists through performance and scholarship opportunities, mentoring, donated instruments and shoes, classical performances in schools, dance performances, school-based clubs, opportunities to support other nonprofit organizations and much more.
The motive energy and special talents required to conceptualize and sustain the efforts undertaken by the organization reside in a single individual...Terry Barber.  Efforts by the board have been supportive, but over the years we have found no opportunity to reduce the burden on Terry. Growth in the A4AC programs, growth in Terry’s career, growth of his family and his relocation in support of his family, have created an unsustainable burden on the scarce resource of Terry’s individual time and energy. We anticipate the continuing expansion of the demands on this finite resource from every quarter.
It is an unreasonable expectation for us to ask Terry to prioritize this charitable enterprise over his family and career and even less reasonable to ask that he donate the amount of time it will take to keep this organization going in any market. An artist being compensated fairly for their time is one of the founding principles of the organization.  We are not responsibly modeling this by asking Terry to continue to donate his time. It is painfully clear that the organization is not in a financial position, now or in the predictable future, to do otherwise.  The Florida board has been unable to raise the funds necessary to sustain a more robust effort.
The models that were created under Artists for a Cause in Florida with the Salon Series, Dance For Food, Therapeutic Arts, School-based A4AC Clubs and scholarship opportunities can and should be sustainable by other organizations if they are interested, and it is our hope that the opportunities for student artists will continue through sources in the Treasure Coast community of Florida.  Any of us are willing to speak with people interested in assuming these functions to answer questions or give insight.
In light of all these factors, and after careful consideration of the next best steps for Artists for a Cause, Artists for a Cause will go on inactive status in Florida and the main work of the organization will shift to St. Louis. We are pursuing opportunities for other organizations that support artists to carry on the work that benefits students, provides opportunities for students and also provides scholarships for voice, acting, dance and other lessons.
We are so grateful for the support that you have given us during the last decade, and look forward to hearing from any of you who might have ideas about other organizations or professionals who can help carry on the work of creatively building better communities.

Sincerely,

A4AC Board

Artists for a Cause supports artists who serve community needs.
logo

Artists for a Cause is a national nonprofit organization that supports artists who serve community needs. Some programs help artists and charities to get the most out of their collaboration, while most produce results directly, by feeding the poor, healing the sick, or solving other problems through unique artistic solutions. Additionally, we never ask artist professionals in a struggling industry to donate or give away their livelihood.  No program is merely about art for arts’ sake –
Artists for a Cause is about the arts as a solution.

We would like to thank the following for their support.
